Nuriootpa High School is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Department for Education Music Innovation Fund grant, enabling the purchase of a brand-new baritone saxophone for the school’s music program.

Introduced in 2019, the Department for Education Music Innovation Fund plays a key role in actioning the department’s 10-year Music Education Strategy which recognises the role learning music has in improving literacy, language and other academic skills, as well as social and emotional development and wellbeing.

The strategy’s programs, including the Music Innovation Fund, are increasing equitable access to music education and enabling sites to establish, strengthen and sustain high-quality music programs.

“Purchasing the new bari sax is massive for our music department,” said specialist woodwind instrumental music teacher Ms Sonia Samain, who has been teaching at Nuriootpa High School and surrounding DfE schools for over 20 years.

“We are grateful for the support of the Department for Education and can’t wait to hear the bari in our ensemble for years to come!”

Through the purchase of this instrument Nuriootpa High School can continue to strengthen its commitment to providing high-quality arts education and facilitating a diverse range of musical experiences for students.
