Feierlichkeiten zur Deutschen Woche (Celebrating German Week)

Coordinated by Frau Cooke, Nuriootpa High School’s German language teacher, German Week provided students and staff with immersive and fun opportunities to learn about and build appreciation for German language, culture and traditions.

Connections with partnership primary schools were also an important aspect of the week with Angaston Primary School Year 6 students and Nuriootpa Primary School reception/Year 1 students participating in various language and cultural activities at Nuriootpa High School during the week.

Community and cross-faculty collaborations were also integral to the success of German Week with a very special performance by the Tanunda Liedertafel, podcast interview with Barossa German Language Association members, German music performed by the Nuriootpa High School concert band, and rote grütze crafted with school-produced fruit.

Other highlights across the week included a flag raising ceremony, pretzel stand, lunch-time futsal competitions, screening of the short film Checker Tobi und die Reise zu den fliegenden Flüssen and a rot, schwarz and gelb (red, black and yellow) themed casual day.

In addition to the school-wide activities, students studying German participated in a range of specially designed learning experiences within their regular classes to further deepen their understanding of the language and culture.
