From an unexpected blackout during the matinee to welcoming over 200 guests into the school’s 120 patron-capacity theatre for the evening show, the inaugural Arts showcase at Nuriootpa High School, was a fantastic success.
Bringing together visual and performing arts, with 80 students from across the school involved, the showcase highlighted a depth and diversity of artistic talent.
“The event was a true testament to teamwork. Our Arts teachers are exceptionally talented, and we are fortunate to see them not only guide but perform alongside our students,” reflected acting Arts coordinator and showcase lead, Ms Jess West.
The showcase included a visual arts exhibition, curated by visual art teachers Mr Arlon Hall and Ms Tegan Simmons, which featured a broad range of works by students across years seven to 12. Performances spanned music, drama and dance.
Vibrant dance works, choreographed and coordinated by Ms Alex Hoffmann, were performed by the school’s extra-curricular dance club which was established at the start of the year. Toe-tapping musical items included bucket drumming, vocal soloists and ensembles, and year level bands, supported by music teachers Mr Noah Tilley and Ms Alison Marton with instrumental teachers Ms Sonia Samian, Mr Chris Yeend, Mr Jacob Staehr and Ms Kiara Heinjus. Year 9 drama students delivered captivating performances of original short scenes written and directed by drama teacher Ms Faye Darlington.
“The showcase highlighted the amazing diversity of our Arts program and to see the students’ satisfaction of being part of a ‘team’ and performing together was wonderful,” commented Mr Brad West, Nuriootpa High School teacher and showcase guest.
Behind the scenes staff from across the school supported the event’s success, with the agriculture faculty serving Nurihannam wines, IT staff resolving technical challenges and the grounds team assisting with set up and pack down.
“I could not be prouder of our team, and our students, and we’re looking forward to building on this success in the years to come,” said Ms West.
