An opportunity for students to explore new worlds through books and celebrate the important role that reading plays in learning and everyday life, book week is a highlight on most school’s calendars, and Nuriootpa High School is no exception.

One of the most anticipated events of the week is the annual Book Week costume parade. Students and staff embraced the 2026 theme, Symphony of Stories, with a unique array of costumes depicting characters ranging from literary classics to contemporary best-sellers.

Having been celebrated across the country for over 80 years, Book Week provides an opportunity to recognise the importance of reading for enjoyment. While it’s well established that reading supports development of key literacy skills, it is also a cornerstone of knowledge building and creative inspiration.

To further leverage the excitement of Book Week and encourage reading for enjoyment, the English faculty established a temporary ‘Reading Restaurant’ in the library. During their respective English lessons student across Years 7-10 had the opportunity to ‘sample’ a range of books, making ‘tasting notes’ on each to encourage exploration of genres, authors and styles.

Special thanks to the Nuriootpa High School English faculty and library staff for coordinating a memorable and inspiring Book Week. Students are encouraged to keep reading, exploring new stories, and discovering the many adventures that await with a good book!
