On Thursday 12 February Nuriootpa High School had the pleasure of hosting Principal Fred Choi (Mr Choi Jung Woo) from Youngil High School in Pohang City, South Korea.
Our students welcomed Principal Fred Choi with a special flag raising ceremony. Our Nuriootpa High School marching band played as pairs of our Student Representative Council members raised the Australian, South Korean and Aboriginal flags.
Keen to get an insight into Australian education, Principal Fred Choi spent time in a variety of classes at Nuriootpa High School, including Mr Gibbs’ Year 7 Maths, Ms Mickan’s Year 10 Girls’ High-Performance Football, Ms Centenera Year 10 English and Mr Jones’ Year 10 STEM classes.
Mr Bowley’s Year 10 Vines and Wines class were also excited to show Principal Fred Choi our school’s renown Wine Education Centre – the first of its kind in Australia – giving him an insight into the wine making process from vine to bottle, and a deeper understanding of the connections our school has with the viticulture industry, which is central to employment within our region.
“I was very impressed with our student’s excellent engagement, ambassadorship and interactions across the school, taking a genuine interest in meeting and talking with Principal Fred Choi about our school and also his school,” said Mr Marino, NHS Principal.
At the conclusion of his visit Nuriootpa High School gifted Principal Woo a special piece of art, created by local artist Stuart Hoerisch.
