Nurihannam Wines

In 1992, pioneered by Kevin Hoskin, Nuriootpa High School became the first school in Australia to operate a commercial winery. Producing just one hogshead (~ 240 litres) in the first year, Nurihannam Wines has grown exponentially over the past 25+ years. Today it produces multiple wine varietals annually and consistently achieves award-winning results.

The Wine Education program at Nuriootpa High School focuses on developing industry-relevant skills, not only in winemaking but also in related areas such as design and marketing. The program offers students a unique opportunity to gain the skills and experience necessary to confidently enter the wine and viticulture industry or pursue further study in the field.

Nurihannam Wines is renowned for its outstanding quality and has received numerous awards at both state and national levels.

2024 Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon

Brick red with a crimson hue. Red currant and dried herbs on the nose, blue fruits and blackcurrant on the palate, plush and velvety right through.

2024 Barossa Class Shiraz

Dark brick red with a magenta rim. Earthy plum, chocolate and aniseed aromas, with a rich, concentrated palate of blackberry, mocha and chewy tannins. A big, bold Barossa Shiraz and one of our best vintages yet.

2024 Barossa Class Fortified Ruby

David Bowley

Bright and aromatic with lovely depth and mouthfeel. Fruity, lightly spirit-kissed and lush without being heavy. Perfect on its own or poured over ice cream.

2023 Barossa Cabernet

Red currant aromas with a hint of tomato leaf. The palate is plush with chalky tannins.

2023 Barossa Grenache

Lifted aromatics of red cherry stone. Palate is soft and juicy with lovely raspberry coulis finish. A wine to be enjoyed in its youth.

2023 Barossa Class Shiraz

A true reflection of the 2023 vintage, this wine is more medium-bodied with lifted aromas of rhubarb, blueberry and lovely overtones of Mocha chocolate oak. The palate is complex with blood plum flavours, with persistent silky tannins on the finish. This wine will continue to improve over the next 5-10 years if cellared correctly.

2023 Barossa Scholar Shiraz

In traditional scholar style, this wine displays aromatics of plum with a hint of aniseed. The palate is generous with flavours of choc mint and savoury tannins.

2022 Barossa Scholar Shiraz

This 2022 release is a medium full-flavoured driven wine. It has excellent concentration and structure with obvious but well-balanced tannins. A fruit-driven and lively wine, the 2022 Barossa Scholar Shiraz is a ruby red in colour. It is aromatic with a bouquet of raspberries and notes of red cherry. The fruit vibrancy carries through to the palate and is integrated with creamy oak and velvety tannins on the finish.

2022 Barossa Cabernet

The 2022 Barossa Cabernet provides a structure with leafy herbaceous characters and a hint of dried sage.

2022 Barossa Class Shiraz

This release has a medium to deep plum red colour, concentrated fruit characters, integrated smokey/vanilla oak, rich full flavoured palate, ripe pronounced tannins and a long lingering finish.

2021 Barossa Shiraz

A medium full-flavoured driven wine, with excellent concentration and structure with obvious but well balanced tannins. Deep plum in colour, with a delicious choc mint bouquet and subtle herbaceous character. The palate is generous with soft tannins and crafty touch of oak.

2021 Barossa Benefactors Blend Cabernet Shiraz

The perfect varietal blend of Cabernet and Shiraz. The Cabernet provides structure with leafy characters and a hint of dried sage. This is complemented by the Shiraz, with the red berry flavours adding vibrancy, warmth and purity of fruit.

2021 Barossa Scholar Shiraz

A medium-full flavoured driven wine. Has excellent concentration and structure, with well balanced tannins. A fruit-driven and lively wine, with a ruby red colour. Aromatic, with a bouquet of raspberries and notes of red cherry. Vibrant fruit carries through to the palate and is integrated with creamy oak and velvety tannins on the finish.

2020 School Block Shiraz

Brick red, Juby red currant. Some lovely eucalypt and spice on palate. Round and juicy palate. Charry oak.

2020 Barossa Scholar Shiraz

Dark red crimson colour, nice ripe plum, blackberries, raspberries and balanced subtle oak. Rich concentration on palate, with well-balanced berry fruit continuing on the palate. Nice length and generosity.

2020 Barossa Class Shiraz

Dark crimson red colour with purple hues. Rich satsuma plum, savory black olive spice and subtle oak. Concentration is rich and powerful on palate with dark fruit. Good length, generosity and structure.

Winner: Silver Medal – 2021 National School Wine Competition.

2019 Barossa Scholar Shiraz

Dark red colour with purple hues. Lifted red berry fruits, lifted eucalypt aromas adding complexity. Soft red fruits & eucalypt continue on palate. Soft texture. Round even palate with nice length.

2019 Barossa Class Shiraz

Deep dark crimson in colour. Rich concentration of plum fruits, hints of vanilla and spice. Concentrated and powerful dark fruit. Rich, generous and even length and structure.

Barossa Class Fortified 10 Year Tawny

30th Anniversary of Nurihannam Wines | Kevin Braunack & Marcus Schulz

Deep in colour with a green edge. Lovely aromas of toasty nougat caramel with complex age characters, ripe plum with a touch of raisin fruit. Mouth filling juicy palate, complex aged flavours with good length that persists long after swallowing.
