The weather across the Angaston Show weekend might have been grey but the kaleidoscope of ribbons won by Nuriootppa High School Inclusive Education Centre (IEC) students brightened things up!
Ms Nat Halls-Jones’ Special Class were awarded both first and third place for their group entries into the special needs/disability cookery 14-17 years age category. Individual ribbons were also won by IEC students Isabel – for her wonderful lemon cake – and Harrison for his delicious selection of cookies and slices.
Along with 16 of their IEC peers Isabel and Harrison also entered art works to the junior art section. The students’ works were produced as part of their respective year level arts curriculum and spanned a variety of mediums. Two IEC students were awarded placings in the Year 7 to 10 junior art category, with a first-place ribbon awarded to Calais.
Angaston Show introduced the special needs/disability competition categories in 2025 for both adults and children as part of the show’s ongoing commitment to inclusion. The specific special needs/disability competition categories include art, cookery, colouring-in, floral design and handicrafts, with a range of prizes including cash, rosettes and ribbons up for grabs across each of the categories.
Nuriootpa High School Inclusive Education Leader Ms Tara Burton said that fostering student connection to the broader community was the driving factor for encouraging IEC students to enter their work into the show.
“The Angaston Show was a great opportunity to showcase our students’ skills and talents, and engage positively within our community,” said Ms Burton.
