Transition

The move from primary school to high school is a significant milestone in your child’s life. This transition is an exciting opportunity for growth and discovery, but, it can also bring some nerves. Nuriootpa High School works closely with local primary schools and prospective students and families to ensure a smooth and positive start to high school.

The transition program usually begins in term 2 of Year 6, with prospective families invited to our annual open evening. This provides an opportunity to explore school facilities and learn more about our curriculum and extracurricular activities.

If your child is currently enrolled in a Department for Education primary school, you will automatically be sent a unique registration link from your child’s primary school to complete the registration of interest to start secondary school form. For more information, or if your child is attending a non-government school, refer to the Department for Education’s guidelines.

During term 3, enrolment offers will be sent to families. You’ll need to complete the online enrolment and accept your child’s enrolment offer.

In collaboration with feeder primary schools, on-site transition sessions are scheduled during term 4. You will be notified about these sessions either through your primary school or directly, depending on your circumstances. These tailored transition sessions aim to help students become familiar with our school environment through hands-on activities and interactions with key staff. Students with additional needs may be offered extra sessions or activities, led by our Inclusive Education and/or Aboriginal Education team.

In the first weeks of term 1, Year 7 students will be supported by their Home Group Teacher to understand the expectations of secondary school, such as using Daymap for assignments and communication, and moving between classrooms. Peer support will also be fostered through a buddy system pairing Year 7 students with Year 11 students, to help them feel connected and supported during their first year at high school.
